Dan, I was hopeful that you would begin to narrate the project. The documentary fascinates me, and will make the finished product even more meaningful. It means so much to me that you have thrown yourself into this commission, when it would have been easier to just say you didn’t have the tooling. What a gift you have given me!! I am grateful. 💕
Glad you're enjoying it :-) Hopefully next week will see me cracking the final few problems on the crucifix project. I'm hoping the results are worthy of hanging on your walls.
You say that, but OMG, the work you guys have to go through for prep is light years beyond what we do. If we have a piece that isn't straight, we cut it, bend it, and then fill the gap with weld. You have to start over ;-)
My woodworking is currently limited to framing and large scale joinery--I'm hoping that, once I get the new shop up, I'll have the elbow room to start doing more refined work (cabinets, chess boards, etc.). Mad props to the carpenters out there--wood is a demanding medium.
Thank you so much for posting such a detailed breakdown of your work. I didn't know poop about blacksmithing — and I suppose now I only know a small poop about it, ha — so found this really fascinating.
Do you use your knowledge of blacksmithing in any of your books?
It's recent enough that it hasn't shown up in anything that's published, but it has shown up in a couple of the newer WIPs (the nonfic The Art if Agency, due out later this uear, and the novel Marking the Gray Dawn, which I am currently stuck on)..
I appreciate how you broke down your work-flow and everything that goes into a project.
I'm hoping that other makers will find it helpful. Glad it resonated with you :-)

Thinking of the next challenge………….😁
Bring it :-)
I have no doubts!

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time...
Hear hear!
Uhhh the cats are busy....they're charging
Wow! I'm a carpenter. I realize how simple my work is by comparison to your skill set.

Great! Thanks for the heads up.
